February 20th, 2019 by Fiedler Group

On December 10th Pilot Flying J Travel Centers opened its 23rd travel plaza location in Brawley, California.

Located at 1850 Main Street , the California’s newest Pilot Flying J Travel Center is well positioned to attract trucks and vehicles travelling on nearby Highway 78.

It is reported that the new travel center development will provide up to 90 new local jobs and contribute $3.5 million annually in state and local tax revenues.

“We’re thrilled to serve the Brawley community and contribute to the local economy with our new travel center,” said Ken Parent, president of Pilot Flying J. “Our goal at Pilot Flying J is to connect people and places with comfort, care and a smile at every stop. Both Brawley residents and those traveling through the Imperial County area will soon be able to enjoy the convenience and amenities of this Pilot Travel Center.”

The development features numerous amenities for both those traveling the highways and the local residents:

  • Convenience store
  • Wendy’s walk-in and drive thru restaurant
  • Dunkin Donuts Express
  • PJ Fresh casual food and pizza
  • Premium coffee and cappuccino selections
  • Restrooms and showers
  • Public laundry
  • Drivers lounge and game room
  • Western Union

Conveniences for travelers will also include:

  • 6 diesel bays capable of fueling 6 trucks at one time (includes diesel, diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and bio diesel)
  • 5 gasoline pumps capable of fueling 10 vehicles at one time with two additional 2 gasoline pumps for RVs
  • Tank farms and below ground tanks
  • Retail propane sales
  • Parking for approximately 107 trucks and 70 automobiles
  • CAT scale

Attending the ribbon cutting and Grand Opening festivities was newly-elected Mayor Donnie Wharton who remarked “A project like this takes many, many years in the making.  This piece of property at one time was utilized for agricultural production; and so, to take it from that within the city limits through annexation to what you see here today, is just an amazing journey.”

Mayor Wharton further commented “When people see new projects like these, they’re getting the latest and the greatest from the look, the feel, the landscape, to the compilation of businesses.  Brawley, at least in the commercial re-fueling business, is definitely on the cutting edge.”

Fiedler Group provided the fuel system design, related structural design, and permitting associated with the above ground diesel, below ground gasoline and DEF fuel systems.

The Brawley Travel Center represents the sixth Pilot Flying J project Fiedler Group has completed in California – previous fuel designs were completed at Pilot Flying J Travel Centers located in Tehachapi, LathropPatterson, Otay Mesa and Dunnigan.

Additional Pilot Flying J Travel Center’s centers within California are currently underway.

Headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee, Pilot Flying J is the largest operator of travel centers in North America, serving more than 1.6 million customers daily through more than 750 Travel Plazas across 44 States & 6 Canadian provinces.
