7-Eleven’s Japanese President Forecasts Doubling Number of Stores

According to a report by The Japan Times, the Japanese owner of 7-Eleven looks to expand the brand to 20,000 stores in the United States.

President Kazuki Furuya believes after introducing a Japanese-style of product development and services to the convenience store giant’s existing 8,500 U.S.-based stores, the brand can accelerate its growth.

Furuya noted the existing 7-Eleven U.S. customer base has traditionally leaned low-income, a strategy which improves the quality of goods — fresh salads replacing stale hot dogs for instance — would increase the appeal of middle-class consumers.

While expanding appeal to a larger consumer base will help the company reach its plan to double its stores, a middle-class demographic also equates to higher average daily sales, reflecting the new quality of goods sold.
