Shell Upgrades Hydrogen Refueling Station in Torrance, California

October 18th, 2017 by Fiedler Group

Earlier this month Shell celebrated the recent upgrading of their hydrogen refueling station in Torrance, California.  Located at 2051 W. 190th Street, Torrance in close proximity to both freeways and the regional airport, this new state-of-the-art facility now offers full retail compatible dispensing with fueling capacity of 200 kilograms of hydrogen per 12-hour day (the equivalent of 200 gallons of gasoline per day).

When first opened in 2011, this former hydrogen fueling station and LEED certified learning center was the first station in the nation to tap directly into an existing hydrogen pipeline.  Fiedler Group provided design, permitting and construction management services as part of the initial collaborative effort which included Shell, Toyota, Air Products, South Coast Air Quality Management District and Department of Energy (DOE).

The new facility improvements are a result of the collective efforts of Shell, Air Products, Fastech and Fiedler Group which focused on enhanced vehicle filling performance and consumer interaction, and included 350-bar (5,000 psi) and 700-bar (10,000 psi) vehicle fuelings, and the ability to simultaneously fuel two cars.

Fiedler Group contribution included design and permitting services for the station upgrade.
