Albertsons Converting Store-Used Cooking Oil Into Fleet Biodiesel

August 23rd, 2016 by Fiedler Group

Since 2010, several brands under the Albertsons Companies umbrella have fueled their trucking fleets with biodiesel.

More recently however, the brands are converting used cooking oil created in its grocery stores, into biodiesel that then fuels its fleets.

The program is part of an effort by Albertsons Companies to reduce its waste streams, reducing its environmental footprint as the use of biodiesel lowers overall emissions by up to 52 percent compared to traditional petroleum diesel.

In 2015, as part of its cooking oil recycling program, the company collected more than 481,000 gallons of used oil.

The program has been so successful in fact that the company plans to utilize excess biodiesel being produced to fuel its fleet served by the Brea and irvine Distribution Centers in Southern California.
